COLUMBUS, OH (June 7, 2006) TechDisposal, a global technology asset retirement solutions provider, is amplifying its efforts to educate the world about the importance of environmentally-friendly technology asset retirement practices. Introducing Honor The Environment™, TechDisposal’s new education program that pledges to keep e-waste out of landfills.
TechDisposal has always maintained a 0 percent landfill policy. Now, this industry pioneer is leading the charge to educate enterprises and consumers about the importance of proper technology asset retirement.
Leading analyst firm Gartner estimates that the United States generates 220 tons of e-waste each year; 20
to 30 million tons worldwide. Through 2009, consumers and businesses will replace more than 800
million PCs worldwide; with an estimated 64 percent (512 million) being disposed of. (Gartner, PC
Disposal Cost Update 2005: Mitigating Risk). Computers contain a toxic mix of lead, mercury, cadmium
and other harmful compounds.
TechDisposal began its education initiatives in May by hosting events for both the enterprise and consumer marketplace. The first enterprise event brought together leaders to discuss retirement best practices to protect our environment and data security.
The company’s first order of business in the consumer marketplace is to make technology asset retirement easily accessible. For its first consumer function, TechDisposal enlisted the aid of the Ohio EPA to enlighten consumers about why landfills are not the best choice as the final resting place for old technology. The company will continue to offer free recycle events on a quarterly basis, either as the sole sponsor or working in conjunction with other environmentally-friendly organizations. The goal will be to educate consumers on the benefits that proper disposal has for our environment.
“TechDisposal is committed to being a resource for enterprises and consumers when it comes time to retire their old equipment,” said James Cleveland, TechDisposal’s EVP, sales and marketing. “E-waste takes up significant space in our nation’s landfills and would better serve our community and environment by being recycled.”
TechDisposal, a global technology asset retirement solutions provider, offers comprehensive services for both the enterprise and consumer marketplace. The company follows EPA guidelines, including secure sanitization of all data, to collectively perform the best technology asset retirement practices.
Since 1997, more than 500 clients have trusted TechDisposal. The company was named on the INC 500 list in 2004 and 2005. Please visit the Web site at www.techdisposal.com
